Introduction
After a few years, the need for faster networks exceeded the capabilities of 10BASE-T. In computing, bandwidth is always important. While 10-Mbps was considered high-speed when 10BASE-T was developed, it wasn't long before users demanded even faster connections, even with switching. In this module, we will explore how Ethernet has improved since the creation of 10BASE-T. We will cover 100-megabit and Gigabit Ethernet standards and conclude with an overview of standards that surpass Gigabit speeds.
The CompTIA Network+ exam requires an understanding of different network topologies and types, as well as an ability to summarize various cables and connectors and choose the right ones for a solution. To meet these goals, you should be able to:
-
Explain the different types of 100-megabit Ethernet.
-
Explore and describe Ethernet types that go beyond Gigabit speeds.
This section provides an introduction to the topic. The next section of the module will cover 100 Megabit Ethernet."
